The emotional index ©

Definition

The emotional index © or e-index is a key indicator of emotion invented by Q°emotion to synthesize the main emotion felt in the words and its corresponding intensity. It's is an emotional temperature measuring device fixed by convention between -20°C (-4°F) and 40°C (104°F). This indicator is calculated at the level of each comment and depends on 2 independent parameters: the main emotion of the comment and the intensity of the words used.

For example, a disgusted comment will always have an emotional index between -20°C and -15°C   [1]  (depending on the intensity detected), and a comment expressing joy will always reach an index above 31°C.

Depending on the data visualization chosen (thermometer or bubble) It is possible to see how the emotional components of the comments explain the emotional index.

Evolution indicator

You can observe the progress of the e-index against the time period that precedes exactly the one chosen, whether it is the year, quarter, month or a manually determined period.

Once the emotional index has been calculated at the commentary level, simple algebraic means can be used to calculate emotional cues over periods, themes or any other grouping of comments. The e-index © can be found on all the main pages of the platform.

It is the main emotion that defines the e-index at a verbatim level, then averages are calculated by category/ period/ filter.
